Kristy L. Weber, MD, chair of the Council on Research and Quality, led the TO development, examining three aspects of MoM hip implants:
• Clinical outcomes
• Predictive factors for clinical outcomes
• Prevalence of adverse clinical events
The TO includes a summarization of findings from studies and registry data as of July 15, 2011, and approved by the AAOS board of directors in Dec. 2011. The review doesn’t make recommendations for implant use, but the authors intend for the information to be used as an educational tool.
A summary of the findings and the TO in its entirety are available on the AAOS website.
