10 major Medtronic moves in 2019

Global medical device company Medtronic has been very active in 2019 with acquisitions, device launches and clinical studies. Here is a timeline of 10 of the company’s major events so far this year.

January 24: Signs an agreement to acquire cardiac ablation system manufacturer EPIX Therapeutics.

January 28: Four months after the acquisition of Mazor, Medtronic launches the Mazor X Stealth Edition for spine surgery.

January 15: Launches the app MyCareLink Heart, enabling patients to access data from their pacemakers on their smartphones.

January 17: Enrolls its first patient in a clinical study to assess pain control and oral opioid elimination with targeted drug delivery.

February 18: It is revealed the company is closing its facility in Portsmouth, N.H., affecting approximately 150 jobs as part of a restructuring plan.

February 19: Reports financial results for its third quarter of fiscal year 2019. Third quarter worldwide revenue of $7.546 billion — a rise of 4.4 percent on an organic basis.

April 15: University of California San Diego is reported as the state’s first healthcare system to adapt Medtronic’s Mazor X Stealth Edition System.

May 9: Health technology firm Royal Philips collaborates with Medtronic to advance treatment of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation, a common heart rhythm disorder.

May 9: Medtronic enters into a definitive agreement to acquire titanium spine interbody implant and surface technology company, Titan Spine.

May 14: It is reported that Muskegon (Mich.) Surgery Center became the state’s first ASC to use Medtronic’s Mazor X Stealth Edition robot guidance system for spine surgery.
