Robotic surgery has accelerated rapidly over the past 12 years and Vijay Singh, MD, BMC’s chief hospital executive, plans to implement a robot institute with an orthopedic spine program.
The hospital aims to perform robotic-assisted spine, orthopedic and neurosurgery.
BMC will dedicate three hospital wards for the robotics institute, with one for each robot, according to the report. The first of three robots to arrive is Stryker’s Mako system.
The hospital is also initiating a robotics fellowship in June.
