Nevada hospital purchases robotic navigation system for spine surgery

Reno, Nev.-based Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center installed Globus Medical’s ExcelsiusGPS robotic navigation system to assist surgeons in spine procedures, reports Northern Nevada Business View.

Three things to know:

1. Developed by Globus Medical, ExcelsiusGPS combines a robotic arm with navigation to improve accuracy in the placement of screws during spine surgery.

2. The device supports screw placement in various approaches including posterior cervical, posterior thoracic sacroiliac and posterior lumbar among others.

3. The hospital purchased the robot for almost $1.5 million.
