Dr. Brian Silvia marks 1,500th robot-assisted joint replacement

Brian Silvia, MD, PhD, completed his 1,500th robot-assisted joint replacement surgery, the Telegraph Herald reported April 13.

Dr. Silvia, of Dubuque, Iowa-based Medical Associates Clinic, uses Stryker’s Mako robot. He completed his 1,500th procedure with it March 30 at MercyOne Dubuque Medical Center. The milestone makes Dr. Silvia one of the most experienced robotic surgeons in the Midwest.

He received his medical degree from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine in Farmington and completed his residency at the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester. Dr. Silvia joined Medical Associates in November 2015 and started training in robotics for joint replacements.
