Here five firsts from the orthopedic and spine robotics sector that Becker’s reported on during the third quarter of 2024:

1. Irvine, Calif.-based Hoag Orthopedic Institute performed the first Corin Apollo robotic knee replacement on the West Coast. 

2. The Detroit VA’s orthopedic surgery department completed its first robotic-assisted hip replacement procedure.

3. Orthopedic surgeon Prashant Deshmane, MD, performed Utica, N.Y.-based Wynn Hospital’s first robotic hip procedure using Stryker’s Mako SmartRobotics technology.

4. Orthopedic surgeon Phillip Myers, DO, of Singing River Orthopedics in Ocean Spring, Miss., is the first surgeon in the state to perform surgery using an augmented reality technology called HipInsight.

5. Joshua Herzog, MD, performed his first case with the ExcelsiusGPS, an L4-L5 transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion.
