UN calls for inquiry after orthopedic surgeon’s kidnapping in Libya

An orthopedic surgeon in Libya has been freed from his captors four days after his abduction, CGTN Africa reports.

Dr. Siddiq Khalfallah Ben Della, deputy head of al-Khadra Hospital in Tripoli, the country’s capital, was reportedly kidnapped Dec. 1 by four armed men in uniform.

Government security forces freed the surgeon and arrested his kidnappers four days later.

The United Nations Mission in Libya called for a “full and independent inquiry” into the incident and all other abductions led by Libyan armed groups, the news outlet reported.
