Medical technology company Treace Medical Concepts has filed a lawsuit against Zimmer Biomet and Paragon 28 alleging infringements of four patents.
The suit, related to Treace’s Lapiplasty 3D Bunion Correction technologies, was filed in a Delaware federal court seeking to halt the alleged infringement, as well as financial penalties from Zimmer and Paragon, according to a June 5 news release.
The suit alleges that Treace was the first company to develop, patent and market an instrumented 3D bunion correction system for true tri-planar lapidus bunion correction.
Treace’s patent portfolio includes 80 granted U.S. patents, with an additional 26 granted patents worldwide and over 150 pending patent applications.
“We believe that this lawsuit is necessary to protect the significant investments we have made in our pioneering research and technology, which is in the best interest of our stockholders,” John Treace, chairman, CEO and founder of Treace, said in the release. “Enforcing and defending our intellectual property helps to drive our ability to continue to innovate solutions that benefit patients.”
