The AAOS in 2021: 6 notes

From leadership changes to new clinical guidance, here are six key updates from the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons this year:

1. Dave Atkin, MD; Joseph Zuckerman, MD, and Lisa Lattanza, MD, all received honors from the AAOS in September.

2. The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons added laser therapy in its guidelines for treating osteoarthritis of the knee, according to a Sept. 16 news release.

3. The National Association for Business Resources listed the AAOS as one of “Chicago’s Best and Brightest Companies to Work For” in July.

4. Thomas Throckmorton, MD, was appointed editor-in-chief of orthoinfo.org, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons’ patient education website, in April.

5. The AAOS named Peter Rose, MD, as editor-in-chief of the Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

6. Daniel Guy, MD, was named the 2021-22 president of the AAOS in March. Nine other leaders were also appointed for the 2021-22 term.
