Smith+Nephew submits FDA application for spatial surgery

Smith+Nephew submitted its TESSA System for FDA 510(k) clearance, according to a March 4 news release.

TESSA, which stands for Tracking Enabled Spatial Surgery Assistant, is pending FDA clearance for use in anterior cruciate ligament surgery. The system combines real-time tracking and augmented reality guidance.

If cleared, TESSA could help orthopedic surgeons mitigate technical errors with operative planning and intraoperative execution.
