Sign Fracture Care International supports orthopedic surgery training in developing nations: 4 insights

Sign Fracture Care International renewed its partnership with Science Care to support orthopedic surgical training in developing countries.

Here are four things to know:

1. Sign is a nonprofit that partners with low-resource hospitals across the globe to provide fracture care. Sign produces intramedullary nails and screws for the hospitals and teaches physicians in developing nations how to implant them.

2. Science Care is the world’s largest whole-body donation program, which supports physician training and contributes to medical research. This is the second year Sign and Science Care have partnered. .

3. Science Care will donate cadaveric tissue for the 2018 Sign International Orthopaedic Conference, between Sept. 12 to Sept. 15 in Richland, Wash. There 150 surgeons will gather from across the globe for hands-on training and education.

4. Sign has trained 5,000 surgeons in 52 developing countries. According to the nonprofit’s founder Lewis Zirkle, MD, Sign surgeons have treated over 220,000 patients.
