Phoenix Suns, Mercury donate $1M to Banner Health sports medicine program

Phoenix-based Banner Health’s foundation has received a $1 million donation from respective NBA and WNBA teams, the Phoenix Suns and the Phoenix Mercury, according to a May 6 report from the SierraDailyNews.com

The donation from the teams and their philanthropic arm, the Phoenix Suns/Phoenix Mercury Foundation, will support Banner’s sports medicine program. 

It will fund 2,000 physicals, 1,000 concussion tests and 100 injury risk assessments for students in the area who cannot afford required sports physicals, according to the report. 

In addition, the donation will allow Banner Sports Medicine to expand its equipment and technology offerings. It will also fund a youth basketball program for students aged 12 to 18 who receive injury risk assessments from Banner orthopedic surgeons, physical therapists and sports medicine specialists.
