There are seven states in the U.S. without an accredited orthopedic residency program, according to 2023 data from the National Resident Matching Program. 

The Springdale (Ark.) Planning Commission has approved development plans for the Northwest Arkansas Center for Orthopedics and Sports Medicine of Little Rock-based University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, according to an April 5 report from the Arkansas Democrat Gazette. 

There are 18,469 active orthopedic surgeons in the country, according to the Association of American Medical College's "2022 Physician Specialty Data Report."
