Three major investors in Smith+Nephew have encouraged the company to consider breaking up parts of its business and spinning off its orthopedics division, according to a Nov. 15 report from Mass Device.

In August, Chris Larson, MD, an orthopedic surgeon at Golden Valley, Minn.-based Twin Cities Orthopedics and head team physician for the Minnesota Vikings, performed knee surgery on Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy. 

Bethlehem, Pa.-based Lehigh Valley Orthopedic Institute has added sports medicine surgeon Leighann Krasney, DO, to its Mountain Valley Orthopedics team. 

A patient was awarded $3.16 million in a medical malpractice case involving a spinal surgery from September 2015 that resulted in irreversible nerve damage, according to a Nov. 13 report from the law firm Mintz & Geftic.

Former professional tennis player Fernando Perez has undergone two hip replacements at Allentown, Pa.-based Lehigh Valley Orthopedic Institute.
