The Terre Haute, Ind.-based Indiana Joint Replacement Institute and the Indianapolis-based Indiana Orthopedic Institute are adding five new orthopedic specialists on Oct. 1, according to a Sept. 24 report from the Current.

While 3.9 million Americans currently have a BMI of 50 or higher, only 11% of surgeons would be willing to perform a joint replacement or spine procedure on patients in that weight bracket.
