Carl Seon, MD, underwent the transplant after suffering from complications of COVID-19. He was diagnosed in 2020 and had the surgery in 2021.
Returning to his career was a long time coming, he told Erie News Now.
“I was battling rejection for quite a while, the first 13 months after transplant,” Dr. Seon said. “Once that got taken care of in May [2022], I think that’s when my recovery really started.”
Dr. Seon previously worked at UPMC Hamot in Erie, Pa., but moved to work at Meadville, Pa.-based Whole Health Orthopedic Institute. He told the news station the independent practice would allow him more flexibility.
