Orthopedic surgeon to know: Dr. Lawrence Dorr of Keck School of Medicine of USC

Lawrence D. Dorr, MD, is an orthopedic surgeon at Los Angeles-based Keck School of Medicine of University of Southern California.

Dr. Dorr serves as a clinical orthopedic surgery professor in Keck’s orthopedic surgery department.

A Journal of Arthroplasty founding editor and Techniques in Orthopaedics‘ former editor-in-chief, Dr. Dorr has published 300 scientific articles and book chapters.

He is past president of the Knee Society, the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons and the Hip Society.

In 1996, Dr. Dorr founded Operation Walk, a charity dedicated to providing free hip and knee replacements around the world. Under his leadership, the organization treated more than 10,000 patients in 12 countries.

Operation Walk will honor Dr. Dorr in October for his work. The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons recognized him in 2006 with the Humanitarian of the Year Award for founding Operation Walk.

Dr. Dorr graduated from the Iowa City-based University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine and completed an internship and residency at the Los Angeles County + USC Medical Center. He completed a fellowship at the New York City-based Hospital for Special Surgery.
