Dr. Smith specializes in hand, shoulder and elbow surgery, and he is currently involved in research on labral repair and rotator cuff tendon tears.
In January and February, Dr. Smith presented lectures on hand and wrist arthroplasty as well as adult brachial plexus injuries at the UPMC Hand Conference in Erie, Pa.
Dr. Smith is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and American Medical Association. He is a candidate member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand.
After earning his medical degree from Boston University School of Medicine, Dr. Smith completed his residency at Indianapolis-based Indiana University Medical Center. He then underwent fellowship training in shoulder and elbow surgery at Prince of Wales and Concord Hospitals in Sydney, Australia, and hand and upper extremity surgery at UPMC Hamot.
