Orthopedic surgeon to know: Dr. Benjamin Coobs of Carilion Clinic

Benjamin R. Coobs, MD, is an orthopedic surgeon at Roanoke Va.-based Carilion Clinic, which he joined in 2015. His clinical interests include anterior approach hip replacement, fracture repair, hip arthroscopy, periacetabular osteotomy, proximal femoral osteotomy, revision total joint replacement, surgical hip dislocation and total joint replacement.

Dr. Coobs is a professor at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine in Roanoke. He has received numerous awards over the course of his career, including the OREF Clinical Research Award in 2013, the AOA Resident Leadership Forum in 2013 and the AOSSM Excellence in Research Award in 2009.

 

Dr. Coobs earned his medical degree from the University of Minnesota-Minneapolis, where he completed his residency in orthopedic surgery. Dr. Coobs has completed fellowships in adult reconstruction and hip preservation surgery at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis and in orthopedic traumatology and hip replacement at Skyline Medical Center-Hughston Clinic in Nashville, Tenn.
