Orthopedic surgeon inducted into local doctors’ hall of fame: 4 notes

The Forrest General Healthcare Foundation inducted board-certified orthopedic surgeon Michael Stonnington, MD, and three other physicians into the Doctors’ Hall of Fame, the Mississippi Business Journal reports.

Here are four things to know.

1. The Doctors’ Hall of Fame honors physicians who contributed to healthcare improvement in Hattiesburg, Miss., and at Hattiesburg-based Forrest General Hospital

2. Dr. Stonnington is a co-founding director of orthopedic trauma services at Forrest General Hospital, which is a major trauma referral hospital for the state of Mississippi. He is currently president of the Forrest General medical staff and a former president of Hattiesburg-based Southern Bone & Joint Specialists.

3. Dr. Stonnington is also an adjunct clinical professor at William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Hattiesburg.

4. The other 2018 inductees included the late hematologist/oncologist Nagen Bellare, MD, radiologist Steven Murphey, MD, and anesthesiologist William Strong Jr., MD.
