Orthopedic surgeon Dr. Frank T. Barranco Sr., passes away at 84

Frank T. Barranco Sr., MD, passed away Saturday in Oak Crest Village, Md. Dr. Barranco oversaw an orthopedic foot clinic at Hopkins Hospital and was an assistant professor of orthopedic surgery, reports the Baltimore Sun.

“He brought the human side to his medical practice,” said a son, Michael Barranco, to the Baltimore Sun. “It was commonplace for him to make house calls, and not unusual for patients to have their casts changed or surgical sutures removed in his family’s Lutherville kitchen or in their kitchens.”

Dr. Barranco closed his practice in 1990 and became a full-time chief physician for the Baltimore Police Department, and also served as commanding general of the State Defense Force of the Maryland State Guard, reports the Balitmore Sun, and Dr. Barranco is survived by three sons, three daughters, a sister, 15 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
