New Jersey hospital performs its 1st Intellijoint hip replacement: 3 details

Edison, N.J.-based Hackensack Meridian Health’s Bayshore Medical Center in Holmdel, N.J., performed its first Intellijoint hip replacement surgery Nov. 28.

Here are three details:

1. Orthopedic surgeon Robert Borzio, MD, performed the surgery.

2. The optical navigation system is designed for use during total hip replacement surgeries to ensure equal leg length by using the correct size implant.

3. The system, which is also aimed for corrective purposes, can help surgeons pinpoint the cause of symptoms and determine which implants need to be removed or modified during a revision total hip replacement.
