Flemington, N.J.-based Hunterdon Medical Center has added robotic and augmented reality tools for knee, hip and shoulder replacements.

For knee replacements, Hunterdon added the Johnson & Johnson Velys and Stryker Mako robotic systems to assist with bone cuts and ligament balancing. The Mako robot is also used during hip replacements for component placement, according to an Oct. 30 news release.

For shoulder replacements, the center is using Medacta NextAR system for 3D planning and intraoperative augmented reality to guide implant positioning.

Additionally, Hunterdon Health and MidJersey Orthopaedics, also based in Flemington, have launched an outpatient joint replacement program that allows for same-day discharge in eligible patients. The program includes multimodal pain management with spinal anesthesia and targeted nerve blocks.

The organizations are developing alternative pain control protocols aimed at supporting opioid-free recovery.
