Mississippi orthopedic center uses ROSA system — 3 insights

Jackson-based Mississippi Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center used the ROSA surgical robotic system in an outpatient knee replacement May 28, the Northside Sun reports.

What you should know:

1. Trevor Pickering, MD, used the ROSA robotic assistant to replace a patient’s left knee.

2. The ROSA system assists surgeons in presurgical planning and again during the procedure. The system uses 3D-modeling technology to ensure surgeons properly place implants.

3. Mississippi Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center believes it is the first center to use the ROSA system in such a capacity.

“This day is a milestone in knee replacement, one of the most commonly performed surgeries in the world,” said Dr. Pickering. “We are excited to have this remarkable new technology to offer to our patients.”
