Maryland governor appoints Dr. Andrew Pollak as chair of statewide healthcare commission: 3 notes

Gov. Larry Hogan, R-Md., appointed orthopedic trauma surgeon Andrew N. Pollak, MD, as Maryland Health Care Commission chair, The Baltimore Sun reports.

Three things to know:

1. The Maryland Health Care Commission is the state panel that regulates hospitals and healthcare facilities.

2. Dr. Pollak will oversee the modernization of the state’s certificate of need program.

3. He is a professor and chair of the orthopedic department at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore. Dr. Pollak will take over as chairman from Robert Moffit, PhD.
