Muncie, Ind.-based IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital became the first and only health system in the state to offer robot-assisted shoulder replacements, according to a news release shared Dec. 11 with Becker’s.

Jacob Triplet, DO, is currently the only surgeon in the state to perform robot-assisted shoulder replacements. The system uses a 3D CT scan to help plan and execute surgeries.

“We are committed to bringing leading surgical options to the communities we serve,” Jeff Hanson, service service line administrator of orthopedics, rehab and neurosciences, said in the release. “Robotic-assisted technology gives our team an added level of precision and control. It’s another way we are working to improve the patient experience and deliver high-quality care close to home.”
