  • Osteoarthritis can affect hands just as much as hips or knees.
  • In some forms of hand arthritis, the arthritis will occur more frequently in the non-dominant hand.
  • Hand surgery is more delicate a process compared to larger joints, and not always necessary for patients experiencing arthritis in one finger, said Ramin Pooyan, DO, hand and upper extremity specialist with the Institute of Clinical Orthopedics and Neurosciences at Desert Regional Medical Center, in The Desert Sun.
  • Cortisone injections and occupational therapy may be options for a patient experiencing hand arthritis but who does not need surgery.
