Hendry Regional Medical Center in Clewiston, Fla., has expanded its orthopedic and general surgery offerings and begun renovating patient rooms, according to a Nov. 17 FOX4 report.

Surgeons Michael Bahlatzis, MD, and David Rubins, MD, lead the orthopedics services. They currently see nearly 60 patients per week, filling what they described as a regional gap in orthopedic care. Patients previously traveled more than 100 miles to Fort Myers or West Palm Beach for treatment.

The orthopedic team is less than a year old, with Dr. Rubins joining about two months ago. Hendry Regional also plans to expand general surgery, wound care and colonoscopy screenings, Barry Davis, MD, the hospital’s chief of staff, told the outlet.

Patient room renovations are also underway to modernize the facility, which dates to the early 1950s, according to the report.
