Here is what you need to know:
1. The surgery was completed using a robotic arm-assisted technology of the knee implant placement. East Cooper Medical Center is the only hospital in the state to offer the technology.
2. Mako total knee surgery is an option for adults with mid- to late-stage osteoarthritis of the knee.
3. A CT scan of the patient’s knee generates a 3D virtual anatomy model, which is then loaded into a software system that allows physicians to make a personalized preoperative plan. In the operating room, Mako technology allows surgeons to place and align the components with extreme precision.
4. East Cooper will also be the first South Carolina hospital to launch Mako for hip replacement surgery this year.
