Dr. Michael Merrick named 2018 Top Doctor: 5 things to know

Tyler, Texas-based orthopedic surgeon Michael Merrick, MD, has been named a 2018 Top Doctor.

Here are five things to know:


1. Dr. Merrick is an orthopedic surgeon at Azalea Orthopedics. He serves as research director and compliance committee director at Azalea Orthopedics, serves on the medical executive committee at Texas Spine and Joint Hospital and serves as an orthopedic director at the Texas Spine and Joint Urgent Care Centers in Palestine and Longview, Texas.


2. Dr. Merrick received his medical degree from the University of Texas in Houston. He underwent spine surgery fellowship training with Louisville, Ky.-based Norton Leatherman Spine Center.


3. He is an expert in spine surgery and minimally invasive spine procedures and provides surgical and non-surgical care for a wide range of injuries and conditions. He is an active member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery, the American Spinal Injury Association, the Texas Medical Association and the Texas Orthopaedic Association.


4. Dr. Merrick has authored many medical research papers and scientific poster presentations and has presented his research worldwide.


5. He is a member of the South Spring Baptist Church and a committee member for Tyler Young Life, a Christian organization for junior high and high school students. He serves as a youth football coach with Impact Sports.
