William Sterett, MD, an orthopedic surgeon with Vail-Summit Orthopaedics & Neurosurgery plans to retire Dec. 31.
Dr. Sterett also spent 25 years as head team physician for the U.S. Women’s Alpine Ski Team and worked as a U.S. Olympic Committee Team Physician, according to an Aug. 14 news release. In 2012 he received the Leland Sosman Award for Lifetime Achievement from the USSSA.
His clinical work focused on expertise in treating female athletes, He trained more than 100 orthopedic fellows and residents, contributed to more than 30 peer-reviewed publications, has multiple medical device patents and spent 16 years on the Board of the Steadman Hawkins Research Foundation.
At Vail-Summit Orthopaedics & Neurosurgery in Vail, Colo., he helped launch the VSON Research and Education Foundation. Dr. Sterett was also a managing partner for two orthopedic clinics, president of the Vail Valley Medical Staff and medical director for the Vail Valley Surgery Centers.
