Dr. Robert Madlinger to return to New Jersey hospital after military service in Afghanistan

Robert Madlinger, MD, recently completed military service as the sole orthopedic trauma surgeon at the U.S. Army’s Forward Operating Base in Jalalabad, Afghanistan, reports North Jersey.com.

Dr. Madlinger, chief of trauma and surgical critical care at St. Joseph’s University Medical Center in Paterson, N.J., has been operating at the base since July.

He joined the Army Medical Reserves in September 2011, a few months after he became employed at St. Joseph’s.

Dr. Madlinger is also director of the general surgery residency program for 18 residents at the hospital. 

He plans to return to work later this month.
