Keith Meister, MD, is set to perform elbow surgery on Hayden Birdsong, a pitcher for the San Francisco Giants, next week in Dallas.
Mr. Birdsong will undergo Tommy John elbow surgery to repair a right forearm strain and ulnar collateral ligament sprain in his right elbow, according to a March 19 report from mlb.com.
He suffered a Grade 2 forearm strain and UCL sprain during a game on March 10.
The recovery period for Tommy John surgery is typically 12-16 months, which will cause Mr. Birdsong to miss the entirety of the 2026 MLB season.
Dr. Meister is the director of sports medicine at the Texas Metroplex Institute for Sports Medicine & Orthopedic Surgery in Arlington and is the head team physician for the Texas Rangers, another MLB team.
At the Becker's 23rd Annual Spine, Orthopedic and Pain Management-Driven ASC + The Future of Spine Conference, taking place June 11-13 in Chicago, spine surgeons, orthopedic leaders and ASC executives will come together to explore minimally invasive techniques, ASC growth strategies and innovations shaping the future of outpatient spine care.
