Jonathan Schaffer, MD, an orthopedic surgeon and digital health leader at Cleveland Clinic, has died, according to a March 27 Linkedin post.
Dr. Schaffer spent more than 20 years at Cleveland Clinic, where he served as managing director of information technology and practiced in the Center for Joint Replacement. He led development of the system’s global telemedicine and digital health tools, including MyConsult, DrConnect and the Global MedAssist Program.
Earlier in his career, Dr. Schaffer served as assistant professor of orthopedic surgery at Boston-based Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School. He also led multiple health IT ventures, including as CEO of Harmonie Group, a medical software company spun off from Harvard’s Decision Systems Group.
