New York City-based Hospital for Special Surgery named Joel Press, MD, as physician-in-chief, and he began the role on May 1.
Dr. Press, a physical medicine and rehabilitation physician, will play an important role in HSS’ future of non-operative musculoskeletal care, according to a May 6 news release. He will report to Douglas Padgett, MD, surgeon-in-chief and medical director.
“Dr. Press has made significant contributions to the advancement of musculoskeletal medicine and is one of the most highly regarded physiatrists in the diagnosis and management of non-operative sports and spine conditions,” Bryan Kelly, MD, president and CEO of HSS, said in the release. “His leadership will play a pivotal role in advancing HSS’s mission to expand access to high-quality non-operative care, deepen physician engagement, and drive innovation in musculoskeletal health.”
Dr. Press is nationally and internationally recognized for his work in physical medicine and rehabilitation with more than 75 peer-reviewed publications. He previously was physiatrist-in-chief at HSS and a professor of rehabilitation medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College in New York City.
