“The smart implant is attached to the tibial (shinbone) component of the knee replacement,” Crickard said in the announcement. “Following surgery, it allows the healthcare team — surgeons, nurses, therapists — to monitor relevant gait/walking metrics including knee range of motion, step count, and walking speed. We then leverage this data to assess patient recovery. We can see if the patient is progressing well and determine if intervention is needed to optimize their outcome.”
