Dr. Brett Gemlick dies at home, cause unknown

Orthopedic surgeon Brett Gemlick, MD, age 50, died at his home on Oct. 9, reports Fort Wayne’s NBC.

Dr. Gemlick joined Ortho NorthEast in Fort Wayne, Ind., as part of its SportONE team in 2000.

He specialized in sports medicine, focusing on complex rotator cuff and shoulder reconstruction.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society honored Dr. Gemlick with the ‘Man of the Year’ award last year after he raised a record $163,000 for the organization.

The cause of Dr. Gemlick’s death is yet to be identified.
