1. Alan Hinton, MD, of Lake Charles, La.-based Lake Area Medical Center, said the anterior approach allows him to move muscles and tissues out of the way during surgery.
2. Patient lay flat so their pelvises don’t tilt during surgery.
3. Dr. Hinton said he can take intraoperative X-rays and real time X-rays of the hips to achieve accurate cup position.
4. Anterior approach incisions are between four inches and five inches in length, compared to traditional incisions of eight inches.
