Data breaches affecting orthopedics in 3 months

Here are four data breaches and security incidents impacting orthopedic practices and groups, as reported by Becker’s since May 1:

  1. Frisco, Colo.-based Vail Summit Orthopaedics & Neurosurgery sent a notice of a recent security incident.
  2. Fort Myers, Fla.-based Gardner Orthopedics provided notice that it was the target of a cyberattack. 
  3. Bradenton, Fla.-based Coastal Orthopedics will pay $1.4 million to settle a class action lawsuit regarding a 2023 data breach.
  4. Brookfield, Conn.-based Orthopaedic Specialists of Connecticut experienced a data security incident that exposed the information of 22,541 individuals.
