The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons has named three members to its board of directors for 2026, according to a Dec. 8 email from the organization shared with Becker’s.
Elizabeth Matzkin, MD, was selected as second vice president. Dr. Matzkin is chief of women’s sports medicine and fellowship director at Boston-based Brigham and Women’s Hospital and assistant professor of orthopaedic surgery at Boston-based Harvard Medical School. She previously served on AAOS’ board as a member-at-large and chaired the membership council.
Elisha Powell, MD, was named member-at-large. Dr. Powell leads a 21-person orthopaedic group in Anchorage, Alaska, and has served in multiple leadership roles in the U.S. Air Force, including chief of surgery at its largest medical center, the organization said.
Yale Fillingham, MD, was also appointed a member-at-large. He is an orthopedic surgeon at Philadelphia-based Rothman Orthopaedic Institute and Jefferson Health, and chair of the AAOS Committee on Evidence-Based Quality and Value.
More than 60 nominations were submitted for the three positions, and over 20 nominees advanced to formal consideration.
