Here are eight professional athletes who saw leading orthopedic surgeons since Sept. 1.

1. Kenneth Akizuki, MD, performed elbow surgery on Chicago White Sox pitcher Drew Thorpe.

2. Detroit Tigers shortstop Javier Báez had hip surgery, and Thomas Lynch, MD, performed the arthroscopic procedure.

3. Neal ElAttrache, MD, operated on Sam Hentges, a pitcher for the Cleveland Guardians. The pitcher’s injury involved his capsule and labrum in his left shoulder.

4. Dan Cooper, MD, performed a patella tendon debridement and a chondroplasty procedure on Esteury Ruiz, an outfielder for the Oakland Athletics, at the Carrell Clinic in Dallas. 

5. Erik McCoy, center for the New Orleans Saints, had surgery at Andrews Sports Medicine Institute in Birmingham, Ala. Benton Emblom, MD, performed a hernia procedure.

6. Peter Millett, MD, a surgeon at The Steadman Clinic in Vail, Colo., performed shoulder surgery on Columbus Blue Jackets forward Boone Jenner. 

7. Dan Cooper, MD, performed knee surgery on Jorge Polanco, an infielder for the Seattle Mariners.

8. Neal ElAttrache, MD, performed shoulder surgery on Gavin Stone, a pitcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
