USF Health develops 3D-printed orthopedic tool

Orthopedic

Tampa-based University of South Florida Health has implemented a 3D-printed orthopedic tool, the Patient Specific Guide, that is improving outcomes in shoulder and knee surgeries, according to a June 6 report from NBC affiliate WFLA

The device was created by USF surgeons and prints a custom 3D model of a patient's knee or shoulder so physicians can print a custom guide that lines up with the patient's exact anatomy.

The guide is used in the operating room to line up surgical tools and make sure incisions are as accurate as possible.

USF Health currently holds the patent for the Patient Specific Guide, which is in use nationwide.
