Orthopedic surgical navigation developer Caira Surgical has secured three new patents for its advanced radar surgical tracking and fast landmark registration technologies for use in robotic joint replacement surgery.
The patents cover elements of Caira's radar surgical tracking, according to a May 1 press release. The company also successfully filed for protection in territories outside of the U.S.
"This technology provides the first sub-millimeter-accurate radar tracking system for joint replacement that solves the line-of-sight issue inherent in current optical-navigated systems," Morteza Meftah, MD, associate professor of orthopedic surgery at New York City-based NYU Langone Medical Center and Caira's co-founder, said in the release.
