Multiple orthopedic surgeons and research groups earned awards for their work, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons said Feb. 10.

Marc Philippon, MD, recieved the 2023 Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation Clinical Reserach Award, according to a news release. The award recognizes "outstanding clinical research related to musculoskeletal disease or injury." Dr. Philippon leads a research team at Steadman Philippon Research Institute in Vail, Colo. and is known for his research in hip surgery and outcomes.

Michelle Ghert, MD, earned the 2023 Kappa Delta Ann Doner Vaughn Award, on behalf of the Prophylactic Antibiotic Regimens in Tumor Surgery researchers. The investigators researched the prevention of surgical site infections through prophylaxis after oncologic reconstruction surgery for bone tumors. 

Christoper Dy, MD, recieved the 2023 Kappa Delta Young Investigator Award for his research on brachial plexus injuries. His research examined the quality of life for patients with brachial plexus injuries and found a disconnect between surgical outcomes and patient satisfaction.

The 2023 Kappa Delta Elizabeth Winston Lanier Award was given to the Major Extremity Trauma Research Consortium, according to a news release. The consortium was recognized for its multidisciplinary research platform fousing on issues related to severe extremity rauma. METRC conducted 34 studies, published 57 papers and enrolled over 22,000 patients across 70 sites.
