5 statistics making orthopedic surgeons optimistic

Here are five statistics reflecting optimism in the orthopedic field:

$557,000: The average pay in orthopedics is $557,000, according to Medscape’s “Physician Compensation Report 2022.” That’s up 9 percent from $511,000 in 2021.

7.3 percent: The work relative value units between 2019 and 2021 grew more than 7 percent, according to a May 2022 MGMA report.

11 percent: The percentage of women in orthopedics has grown to 11 percent since 2021, according to Medscape. In 2021, 9 percent of orthopedic physicians were women.

$126,000: Orthopedic surgeons on average earn $126,000 in incentive bonuses, the highest among all specialties.

$68.72 billion: The orthopedic implant market is growing at a compound annual growth rate of 5.4 percent and is expected to reach $68.72 billion by 2028, according to data published in Brand Essence Market Research. The rise in orthopedic injuries and musculoskeletal diseases and an aging population are factors driving the growth of the market.
