4 things to know about Allegheny Health Network’s 1st outpatient knee replacement

Pittsburgh-based Allegheny Health Network physicians have performed the first outpatient knee replacement operation at a facility in the network, according to a Pittsburgh Business Times report.

Here are four things to know:

 

1. The procedure was performed at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.

 

2. Timothy Sauber, MD, an orthopedic surgeon, performed the surgery.

 

3. Dr.  Sauber’s clinical interests include hip resurfacing, hip arthroscopy, joint reconstruction, hip preservation and partial knee replacement.

 

4. The patient, a man in his 40s, returned home the same day as the surgery.
