Trump cuts ACA enrollment outreach funding to $10M: 5 things to know

The Trump administration slashed funding to ACA sign up outreach and advertising from $100 million to $10 million, according to The Hill.

Here are five things to know:

 

1. The Department of Health and Human Services argued the Trump administration is seeing diminishing returns from ACA spending.

 

2. Under the law, the administration will be spending some money on signing people up for healthcare plans; however, the funding from the previous year has been cut 90 percent.

 

3. The administration is also cutting funding for navigators, which are outside organization that help sign people up for insurance. Funding will now be proportional to the number of enrollees from navigators from the previous year.

 

4. HHS officials are planning to set a goal for the number of people navigators should sign up; however, they have not announced the number.

 

5. The new system for navigator funding will cut it spending 41 percent, down to $36.8 million.
