He previously served as the associate director of the orthopedic trauma service at Hospital for Special Surgery and chief of the orthopedic trauma service at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital.
On Sunday, Dr. Lorich was found in his apartment with a knife in his chest, according to the report, although the investigators didn’t find signs of forced entry. An acclaimed orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Lorich was known for participating in several high-profile cases at Hospital for Special Surgery where he oversaw the orthopedic trauma service.
In 2014, Dr. Lorich was on the team who treated U2’s Bono after he suffered injuries during a cycling accident. He was part of a team that treated multiple New York City servicemen after accidents over the years.
Beyond his responsibilities at HSS, Dr. Lorich volunteered to treat 2010 earthquake victims in Haiti and served as a professor at New York City-based Weil Cornell Medical College. Early in his career, Dr. Lorich spent five years as director of orthopedics at Albert Einstein School of Medicine in New York City.
He is survived by his wife and three daughters.
