Orthopedic patient connection platform lands ConforMIS as 1st customer: 5 things to know

In August 2017, orthopedic surgeon William Kurtz, MD, launched Reviews from Friends, a platform allowing potential joint replacement patients to anonymously connect with patients who have undergone a procedure with the same physician, the Nashville Business Journal reports. Implant manufacturer ConforMIS is his first customer.

Here are four things to know.

1. About 100 orthopedic surgeons currently use Nashville-based Dr. Kurtz’s platform.

2. Physicians who use ConforMIS products link to Reviews From Friends on their websites. The service is free for patients and surgeons; ConforMIS is charged for each connection made.

3. A prospective orthopedic surgery patient logs into the platform with their Facebook account, allowing Reviews From Friends to access their friends list and find possible connections with reviewers. If there is a match, the two parties can talk through an anonymous text message. If there is not a match, the platform will find someone in the geographical area who has undergone the procedure with the same physician and initiate a chat.

4. Atiba Software developed the platform, which is only for orthopedics now but was designed to handle any medical event.
