Medscape asked orthopedists the most rewarding as well as the most challenging aspects of their jobs in its “Orthopedist Compensation Report 2017.”

•    Gratitude/relationships with patients — 40 percent
•    Being very good at what I do/finding answers, diagnoses — 32 percent
•    Making good money at a job that I like — 12 percent
•    Knowing that I’m making the world a better place — 9 percent
•    Being proud of being a doctor — 5 percent
•    Nothing — 1 percent

 

Most challenging

 

•    Having so many rules and regulations — 31 percent
•    Having to work longer hours for less money — 17 percent
•    Difficulties getting fair reimbursement from Medicare and other insurers — 16 percent
•    Dealing with difficult patients — 13 percent
•    Having to work with an EHR system — 11 percent
•    Worrying about being sued — 7 percent
